When we use a surface level word to describe how we are feeling, it is imbued with our opinion of what happened to us. Surface level emotions center us as the victim* of an event in which someone or something did something to hurt us.

When we experience our underlying feelings, we connect with our felt-sense of the trigger. Our felt-sense is how the trigger feels in our body. This brings our attention from outside to inside the body
